Improved slipways and launch area

Faced with emerging rocks on the bay shoreline and a dangerously eroding bank a casual converstion between John Peters and Steve Sallis quickly resulted in planning the works completed pre-season. Geoff Woodthorpe brought his old Clerk of Works experience to bear in support of the design and we engaged our resident professional groundworks expert and Head Bailiff Martin Jackson to lead the Project.
The rocks on the waterline were removed, the bank cut-bank 3m and graded to allow a supporting wall of cobble-filled gabions. The second issue identified was congestion on the slipway, particularly on Saturdays with the juniors and youth fleets operating together with many casual club sailors. With plenty of room available the slipway was widened by another 4m additionally the opportunity was taken to widen the East bank slipway by a similar 4m.
It was a huge effort by a great group of club members, including some of the anglers to assemble and fill gabions plus raking and tamping in the concrete for the slipway.
